Perhaps you haven’t yet heard the buzz surrounding Bioethanol fuel or the latest trend in
Bioethanol fireplaces. If not, read on to discover more about how this environmentally friendly fuel could change your life for the better:
What exactly is Bioethanol fuel?
Bioethanol (methylated spirits, or simply ethanol), a clear liquid, is a renewable energy source created by fermenting the sugars and starches found in agricultural and forestry products – plants, in other words. The most common plant sources are sugarcane and grain crops, but ethanol can also be produced from potatoes, corn, beets, and rice, just to name a few. Although the end-product is essentially alcohol, certain denaturants are added to ensure that it cannot be sold or consumed as such, and that it remains used purely as a fuel. Bioethanol has many different uses, ranging from sustainable fuel for vehicles, to cosmetic products and, of course, to the clean and environmentally friendly flames that you see in modern fireplaces.
How is Bioethanol less harmful to the environment than other fuels?
Commonly used fossil fuels, such as gas and coal, are quickly becoming less dependable, while fuels like Bioethanol are renewable. Not only that, but fossil fuels are harmful to the environment when burned and are not biodegradable like Bioethanol is. When Bioethanol is burned, it releases the same amount of carbon dioxide as that which was collected by the plant sources when producing the fuel. The carbon dioxide is then absorbed back into plants and the natural cycle continues, meaning that it is much better for our environment. Being composed of biological, environmentally friendly products, means that any emissions from Bioethanol are clean, consisting of heat, steam and carbon dioxide. These clean emissions mean that when the Bioethanol is burned in a fireplace, there is no need for a chimney or a flue, and since less heat will be lost this way, it makes a Bioethanol fireplace even more cost effective and efficient as a means of keeping warm.
How should I store Bioethanol?
Storing bio ethanol fuel is no different than storing your alcohol. Simply keep it away from a heat source.
Is it easy to purchase Bioethanol fuel?
Bioethanol fuel can readily be purchased from a wide variety of supermarkets, hardware stores and gas stations, and is usually available in 1, 2, 4 and 20 litre bottles. If being used for a
Bioethanol fireplace, the supplier of your fire should either be able to offer you a supply of fuel, or direct you where to find it in your city.
